What to wear and bring in Nanjing in February

Early February

Nanjing has temperatures between 4℃ and 9℃ in early February, and there are some rainy days. Wear thermal underwear as your base layer—pair it with a thin sweater or knitted shirt. Then add a fleece jacket or sweatshirt in the middle, and put a windproof, warm down jacket or wool coat on top. Thickened jeans or wool pants are good for your lower body, and waterproof boots keep your feet warm and dry. Don't forget to bring a scarf and gloves to stay warm.

Mid-February

Mid-February has an average daily low of 1℃ and a high of 9℃. The "onion-style" dressing method still works for this weather. For inner layers, go with thermal underwear or thin sweaters; knitted sweaters or sweatshirts are good for the middle, and windproof coats or thin down jackets work as outer layers. Scarves, gloves and other small items keep cold wind away well, and you're advised to choose waterproof short boots or sports shoes for footwear.

Late February

Nanjing's temperatures can swing a lot in late February. For daytime, choose warm clothes—suits, jackets or windbreakers—with a thin sweater or knitted shirt as your inner layer. At night, it's better to wear thick warm clothes like padded coats or winter coats. You also need to bring scarves, hats and other accessories to keep the cold out better. Remember to take an umbrella if it rains.

Touring Nanjing in February

February is a great time to visit Nanjing for plum blossom viewing. Early plum blossoms at Plum Blossom Hill in Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum are just blooming, with a faint fragrance in the air. You can visit the "Spring Exploration & Blessing Collection" garden fair to check in for stamps and listen to live shows. If your trip coincides with the Lantern Festival, there are lantern displays and traditional music at Pukou Railway Station, and you can guess lantern riddles and watch intangible cultural heritage performances at Hongyang Plaza. To warm up, have a bowl of hot duck blood vermicelli soup and a sweet, glutinous plum blossom cake—these authentic treats chase away the chill.
