Manzhouli Matryoshka Square is located on Huabu Street, Manzhouli City, Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia. It is an important part of the Sino-Russian Border Tourist Area, a national 5A-level tourist attraction. Covering an area of 870,000 square meters, it has been awarded the Guinness World Record for "the world's largest-scale special-shaped building complex". With Russian matryoshka dolls as the theme, the scenic area integrates cultural elements of China, Russia and Mongolia. It consists of three functional zones: theme park, theme entertainment and theme hotel, and is equipped with facilities such as Russian folk experience hall, 6D dome flying theater and Russian-Mongolian performance theater.
Stepping into Matryoshka Square, a 30-meter-tall giant matryoshka catches your eye instantly. It is the world's largest matryoshka-shaped building, with a construction area of 3,200 square meters. The exterior of the matryoshka is beautifully painted, featuring images of beautiful girls representing China, Russia and Mongolia—this highlights the unique local characteristic of regional cultural integration. Inside the building, there is a Russian-style restaurant and a performance hall. Visitors can enjoy authentic Russian cuisine while watching wonderful shows, and the observation deck on the top floor offers a panoramic view of the square's magnificent scenery.
Scattered around the main matryoshka are 8 functional ones, 200 small ones (each stands for a different country or region worldwide) and 30 bright Russian Easter eggs. These small matryoshkas have different shapes and rich painted details, with unique elements of various countries added cleverly. The Easter eggs have nice decorations, and their patterns include animals, plants and folk symbols. Sculptures of China's Twelve Chinese Zodiac Signs and Western Twelve Constellations stand around the musical fountain, mixing Eastern and Western cultures well. When you walk here, it feels like being in a wonderful world of cultural mix.
The Russian Circus Theater in the Matryoshka Scenic Area adopts the European Baroque architectural style and the circular layout of the ancient Roman Colosseum, with a diameter of over 70 meters. International professional performers gather here to present high-difficulty shows such as animal training, royal equestrianism and trapeze acts. In the animal training show, fierce animals obey commands obediently, showing the tacit understanding between animals and humans; in the royal equestrian performance, horses gallop while riders have agile postures; trapeze artists complete thrilling moves in the air, challenging the limits of the human body. All these present an extraordinary, passionate and shocking circus feast to the audience.
Manzhouli is a Sino-Russian border city, and its development has always been closely tied to cross-border cultural exchanges. This "border characteristic" is made visible at Matryoshka Square through its buildings, landscapes and activities: the Russian Baroque-style circus theater, matryoshkas with elements of the three countries, and tastes of real Russian food plus Russian circus shows. All these tell people Manzhouli's role as a "link between East and West". Visitors here can clearly see that "a border isn't a line that divides cultures, but an area where cultures mix".
