Langde Miao Village dates back to the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, over 670 years ago. It was one of China's first ethnic villages to welcome tourists. The village splits into Langde Xiazhai (Lower Village) and Langde Shangzhai (Upper Village) because of its hillside location. Langde Xiazhai has a main street selling Miao handicrafts. It is also where important Miao celebrations happen. The village keeps its group of Qing-era Diaojiaolou (Miao Stilted House), built when the village started. People here still practice traditional Miao customs like the Twelve Welcoming Wine, singing songs, and Lusheng Dance.
The Diaojiaolou (stilted houses) in Langde Shangzhai show the typical Miao building style. Made mostly of wood, they stand in rows on the mountainside. These houses have three floors. Animals stay on the first floor. People live on the second floor. The top floor keeps food and other things. This smart design fits well with the mountain landscape. It lets air move freely and keeps out dampness. Each house has a special "Meiren Kao" balcony to rest. Visitors can rest here. Young women also use it for embroidery work.
The Fengyu Bridge (also called Yuqing Bridge or Continental Bridge) is more than just a way to cross rivers in Langde Miao Village. By day, it's a cool place to rest in the shade. At night, young Miao people meet here for dating, a tradition called "Youfang." The bridge shows beautiful Miao craftsmanship with its three layers of upturned roof corners, making it one of their finest covered bridges.
The Lusheng Ground in Langde Xiazhai is where villagers celebrate during big festivals like the Miao New Year and the Guzang Festival. People come here to remember their ancestors by playing lusheng pipes and dancing to bronze drums. Near the square grows a special yew tree that locals call their "Holy Tree." During festivals, they pray to this tree to protect their village.
The Twelve Wine Welcome is Langde Miao Village's special way to greet guests. When visitors arrive, Miao women line up along the village path with twelve wine stations. At each stop, they offer rice wine with different good wishes.
Langde Shangzhai is famous across China for its real Miao songs and dances. Every noon, villagers perform traditional shows at the Lusheng Ground. Visitors enjoy Jingjiu welcome songs, Flying Songs, Lusheng dances, drum dances, bench dances, and group dances. These show the heart of Miao culture.
Langde Miao Village keeps Miao traditions alive. Visitors see real examples of the culture: Diaojiaolou (stilted houses), silver jewelry making, and Lusheng dancing. These let people, especially young ones, experience minority architecture, crafts, and performances firsthand. They show the special cultural ways the Miao people developed over time.
