Upon your arrival in Zhangjiajie, your driver will meet you at the exit of the airport or train station and escort you to your hotel. You can take a rest to recharge yourself for the upcoming itinerary.
After breakfast, you will start a full-day tour of Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Famous for its unique quartz sandstone peak forest landform, the scenic area boasts diverse landscapes such as peak clusters, karst caves, streams and lakes. First, take a sightseeing bus to the Bailong Elevator, and you will personally experience this world's tallest and fastest outdoor elevator. It only takes 1.5 minutes to go directly from the bottom of the valley to the top of the over 300-meter-high peak pillar.
Bailong Elevator
Next, hike into the mysterious Yuanjiajie. Head to visit its core scenic spot — the Qiankun Pillar (also known as the Southern Sky Pillar). With a vertical height of about 150 meters, the top of the pillar is covered with lush vegetation. The pillar has a fantastic shape, standing towering like a giant hewn by axes and choppers, as if holding up the sky and supporting the earth. It is exactly the filming location of the "Hallelujah Mountains" in the movie Avatar. Then proceed to the Mihuuntai Platform. Standing here, you can see hundreds of exotic peaks and rocks standing quietly in the canyon, piercing straight into the blue sky. When surrounded by clouds and mist, it feels as if you are in a fairyland. Later, admire the lush scenery like "natural potted landscapes" at the Back Garden.

Subsequently, take a sightseeing bus to the Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, which is also the filming location of the fairyland in the TV series Journey to the West. Hike to He Long Park, where there is an observation deck with an excellent view, allowing you to enjoy the magnificent spectacle formed by the peculiar stone peaks.
Go to the Dianjiang Platform to overlook the West Sea Stone Forest. Dozens of peak pillars in the West Sea Stone Forest rise abruptly from the ground, just like soldiers standing in formation. The last stop of today is the Ten-Mile Gallery. You will take a small green train to admire the beautiful scenery along the way, as if walking through a traditional Chinese ink wash painting. After the tour, return to the hotel and have a good rest.
Your Journey’s Rewards:
Witness the world-rare wonder of quartz sandstone peak forests with your own eyes, hike through the "Pandora Secret Land" in Yuanjiajie, visit the picturesque Tianzi Mountain and Ten-Mile Gallery, and immerse yourself in the unique charm of nature.
Educational Focus:
What are the core differences between the Zhangjiajie landform, the karst landform and the Danxia landform?
Takeaway:
The core of the Zhangjiajie landform lies in the formation caused by the vertical joint collapse of quartz sandstone, which forms sharp stone pillar forests. The karst landform is mainly formed by the dissolution of carbonate rocks, with rounded peak clusters. The Danxia landform is mainly formed by the weathering and erosion of red glutenite, distributed in the shape of square hills and castles. Although the three all belong to sandstone landforms, they differ significantly in terms of formation causes, shapes and distribution.
Thought Challenge:
For scenic spots with rare geological landscapes like Wulingyuan, how to enhance tourists' visiting experience and deepen their cognitive understanding while strengthening the protection of the ecology and landforms?
In the morning, depart for Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, which is home to a variety of thrilling high-altitude projects. You will go to experience the Grand Canyon Glass Bridge — the world’s first cable-stayed glass bridge in a high mountain canyon. It is about 300 meters above the valley floor, and walking on it feels like strolling in the clouds. From the bridge, you can take in the magnificent views of the deep canyon and the flowing streams in their entirety.
Grand Canyon Glass Bridge
After the exciting experience on the glass bridge, head to Baofeng Lake for a boat tour. You can leisurely cruise on the emerald-green lake, admire the peculiar peaks surrounding the lake and their reflections on the water surface, and feel the "peach blossom garden"-like tranquility amid the combination of lake scenery and mountain views. There is also a chance to encounter local ethnic minorities performing folk songs.
Your Journey’s Rewards:
Step onto the glass bridge to feel the thrilling excitement of standing 300 meters above the valley floor, blending the pleasure of adventure with the beauty of the canyon. Take a painted boat cruise on Baofeng Lake to enjoy the scenery and feel the inner peace brought by the beautiful views.
Educational Focus:
Why can Baofeng Lake maintain a stable temperature of around 20°C in summer, making it a natural summer resort?
Takeaway:
The reason Baofeng Lake becomes a summer resort lies not only in its altitude advantage but also in its large-area lake water. The lake can absorb and store a large amount of heat, reducing the temperature of the surrounding air. The scenic area is surrounded by peculiar peaks, which form a natural barrier to block the invasion of external hot air and reduce direct sunlight. At the same time, the abundant vegetation releases water vapor through transpiration, further lowering the air temperature.
Thought Challenge:
How to design differentiated experience projects for different types of tourists, so as to accurately meet the needs of natural sightseeing, cultural experience and leisure vacation?
This morning, you will head to Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, which is famous for Tianmen Cave (a natural wonder) and its precipitous mountain terrain. You will take a cable car directly to the top of the mountain. During the cable car ride, you can take in the full view of the 99 hairpin bends of the winding mountain road and the magnificent mountain scenery along the way.

99 Hairpin Bends of the Mountain Road
Upon reaching the top, visit Tianmen Temple. The temple enshrines the Sarira of Sakyamuni Buddha and is one of only five Buddhist temples in the world that preserve the Buddha's relics. You can also enjoy the pleasant scenery of the surrounding green, rolling mountains. After that, you can embark on two exciting plank road hiking trips. First, walk on the transparent Glass Skywalk suspended on a 1,000-meter-high sheer cliff — while having a thrilling experience, you can admire the majestic mountains. Then, explore the 1,600-meter-long Guigu Plank Road. The entire plank road is like a giant dragon clinging to the steep cliff; as you walk, you can overlook the mountains, making the journey both thrilling and spectacular.
Subsequently, take the escalator to Tianmen Cave. This is a must-see attraction in Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area and the world's highest-altitude natural through-mountain cave. After viewing it, take the elevator to the cable car station and then ride the cable car down the mountain.
Tianmen Cave
Afterwards, we will conclude this wonderful four-day Zhangjiajie tour. Our driver will send you to the airport or railway station, and our itinerary service will end here.
Your Journey’s Rewards:
Take the 7,455-meter-long high-altitude cable car to feel the shock of "flying through the sky"; step onto the Glass Skywalk to overlook the deep canyon; gaze up at the "eye of the sky" wonder of Tianmen Cave. Experience Buddhist culture at Tianmen Temple.
Educational Focus:
The southern slope of Tianmen Mountain is relatively gentle, while the northern slope is much steeper. How might this difference in slope affect the distribution of vegetation on the mountain?
Takeaway:
The northern slope has a steep gradient and relatively short sunlight hours, which restricts vegetation growth. It is mainly covered with shade-tolerant and cold-tolerant shrubs and herbs. The southern slope has a gentle gradient and abundant sunlight, which is suitable for the growth of sun-loving and temperature-loving arbors and shrubs, resulting in a more diverse range of vegetation types.
Thought Challenge:
Faced with issues such as long queues for cable cars and overcrowding at core attractions during peak seasons, how to optimize the scenic area design to increase its carrying capacity without reducing the visitor experience?
